A diabetic patient arrived at SRK Scan Centre with swelling and deformity in the foot, initially
suspected to be infection-related. However, a high-resolution CT angiogram told a deeper story
— revealing joint subluxation, bone fragmentation, periarticular sclerosis, and soft tissue edema,
all hallmark signs of Charcot’s neuroarthropathy. Mild arterial narrowing and early venous
congestion were also noted, adding to the complexity.
Charcot’s joint, often misdiagnosed as cellulitis or osteomyelitis, is a progressive, destructive
condition common in long-standing diabetics with neuropathy. Early radiological diagnosis is
critical, as clinical signs are often vague. At SRK Scan Centre, our multi-modality imaging
approach — combining vascular assessment with bone architecture — helps clinicians distinguish
this debilitating condition early, enabling foot-sparing treatment strategies. This case reinforces
our commitment to not just seeing, but understanding — and intervening when it matters most.
