Test Preparation

For ultrasound scans, proper preparation is key to obtaining accurate and clear images. Patients undergoing pelvic or fetal ultrasound scans are generally required to drink plenty of water and arrive with a full bladder, as this helps improve image quality by pushing the intestines away and providing a better view of the uterus and pelvic organs. For abdominal ultrasounds, fasting for several hours before the scan is often recommended to reduce gas in the intestines, which can obstruct the view of internal organs.
In the case of anomaly scans, which assess fetal development, the position of the fetus plays a critical role in how long the scan takes. If the fetus is positioned in a way that makes it difficult to visualize all key anatomical structures, such as the heart, spine, or limbs, the scan may take longer to complete. The goal is to ensure every detail is captured for a comprehensive evaluation, so patience may be necessary.
